Luis Gómez

El trabajo de Luis Gómez pone a debate las relaciones de poder. Despliega un itinerario sobre como son los análisis acerca de las producciones de sentido, y evidencia las tensiones más frecuentes entre lo particular y el “canon” occidental. De esta manera pone de manifiesto los vicios interpretativos efectuados por catalogaciones y traducciones hegemónicas que a menudo desvirtúan los verdaderos códigos de origen. Su propuesta nos habla de los estereotipos que han regido la comprensión de las prácticas culturales que no son generadas desde los sistemas de poder institucionalizados, y a las cuales rige el desconocimiento y los prejuicios.

Graduado en 1991 en el Instituto Superior de Arte de la Habana (ISA). Actualmente es jefe de la Cátedra del Laboratorio de Nuevos Medios del ISA.

Sus obras han sido exhibidas en el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de la Habana, en la 49 Esposizione Internazionale D`ARTE de la Bienal de Venecia, Italia, en el Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New York, EUA, en el Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen, Alemania, en el Barbican Center, Londres, UK, en Art Bassel y Maastricht, en las sedes del IFA, Alemania y en la Bienal de la Habana organizada por el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam. Ha participado en diversas Residencias para artistas otorgadas por instituciones como the Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, EUA, La Universidad Europea de Madrid y The Ohio State University, Ohio, EUA. Su obra forma parte de colecciones como la Ludwig Forum, Aachen, Germany, the Arizona State University Art Museum, EUA, the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, EUA, el NINART, México City, el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de la Habana, el Van Reekum Museum Apeldoorn, Holand y el Wakita Museum of Art, Japón.
